he achieved the rank of Ensign in the Loudoun county, Virginia Militia as of Sept. 1781
Civil Service:
the following was recorded in a Loudoun county, Virginia register book on March 12, 1782
"John Littleton is allowed for 107 days hire of his waggon and team & driver in the Service of the State @ 12/ p day and also for 1 saddle lost in the Contin?l Service 15/.")(
